The Libyan
Authority of Relief in Derna announced, Friday, that the death toll from
Derna's floods in the city to 7700, in addition to the presence of 8000
missing.
The authority added that there are strong attempts to identify the victims whose bodies were thrown to the beach.
It
highlighted that there are hopes to find more survivors beneath the debris of
the destroyed homes, continuing that there are dozens of homes were swept to
the sea with their residents.
The Libyan
Red Cross said that the number of Daniel Cyclone and floods the death toll that
swept Derna jumped to 11300.
Marie El
Darsi, the Chief of the Red Crescent, told Sky News that more than 10,000 are
still missing.
In the same
context, Derna director Abdel Moniem El Ghaithi said that the death toll would
jump to 20,000.
Earlier,
the Mediterranean storm "Daniel" hit several areas in eastern Libya,
most notably the cities of Benghazi, Al-Bayda, Al-Marj, in addition to Susah
and Derna.
Earlier on
Wednesday, the Libyan parliament reported that the death toll from Hurricane
"Daniel" and the accompanying floods had risen to at least 7,000
victims.
The
casualty count is preliminary, and it is expected to increase in the coming
hours.
