Skopje.

In a speech on the occasion of the Day of the Macedonian Revolutionary Struggle and the 130th anniversary of VMRO here on Monday, VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski said that no one has the right to present VMRO as theirs, particularly one of the neighbouring countries.

"VMRO belongs to us as well as to every ‘Macedonian’," he noted, adding that he was disgusted by how "the ‘Macedonian’ historical drama from which almost every neighbour wants to grab a little, is so shyly marked by the official authorities" in North Macedonia.

Mickoski once again called on Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski to set a date for parliamentary elections, which the opposition party insists should be held together with the presidential runoffs next year. Mickoski proposes that the elections be held between two major religious holidays next spring.

In his words, it is important for North Macedonia to join the EU but also for the EU to understand that North Macedonia has been standing in front of the EU's gates for too long, which rightfully creates a feeling of injustice among the former's citizens.

"It is important that they respect us as we are: ‘Macedonians’ from Macedonia. It is important to extend a hand to our fellow citizens Albanians, Turks, Roma, Serbs, Vlachs, Bosnians, and all others and to overcome all our differences," Mickoski said.

On Monday, delegations of the government and the President's cabinet laid wreaths at the monument to Gotse Delchev in Skopje City Park, and VMRO-DPMNE organized an event at the quay near Kamen Most [Stone Bridge] and at Gotse Delchev's other monument on Macedonia Square.
