U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres said Sunday he was “deeply
shocked,” by strikes on two UNRWA schools in less than 24 hours.
“Hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians are seeking shelter at United Nations facilities throughout Gaza due to the intensified fighting,” Guterres said in a statement. “I reaffirm that our premises are inviolable.”
The strikes killed and injured dozens of people, many of them women and
children according to the U.N.
“This is yet another proof that no one, and nowhere is safe in Gaza,” said
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini. “Once again, shelters meant to
provide safety and protection to civilians have been hit, killing many people,
including children. These acts not only blatantly contravene the rules of war,
they also show a total disregard for humanity.”
