In a joint
press conference between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Egyptian
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, both leaders stressed the importance of
coordination and cooperation between their countries to support efforts aimed
at achieving stability in Libya.
Erdogan stated, “I, along with the Egyptian President, do not want to see conflict and instability in Libya. I fully support, together with Sisi, the unity and territorial integrity of Libya, and we are in contact at all levels to ensure peace and stability there.”
For his
part, Sisi said during the press conference, “I emphasized with President
Erdogan the necessity of enhancing consultation between our countries regarding
the Libyan file. We focused on the need to assist in holding presidential and
legislative elections and unifying the country’s military institution.”
The
Egyptian President indicated that “our success in achieving security and
political stability in Libya will set a model to be emulated,” clarifying that
“the countries of the region are the most capable of understanding its
complexities and ways to resolve existing disputes.”
Erdogan
also affirmed that Turkey and its neighbor Egypt “are determined to coordinate
and cooperate on African issues, especially in Libya and Sudan.”
This
agreement between the Turkish and Egyptian leaderships comes within the
framework of joint efforts by the two countries and regional and international
partners to push the political process in Libya towards achieving stability and
security in the country and holding comprehensive elections, according to Libyan
media.
