In mold and
dampness, cold walls and no hot water, female inmates at the Idrizovo
Penitentiary claim that they have been living in inhumane conditions for two
weeks, the media of Skopje write
Although they ask the Administration to listen to their calls, they have not received any response.
About fifty women signed
the petition and set an ultimatum, if the warden does not fix the situation in
two days, they will go on hunger strike. In a statement for TV Sitel, they
accuse that genocide is being committed in the prison.
“The conditions are disastrous, there is dampness, mice, rats in every room,
and hygiene is on a minimal basis. Genocide is being committed. The petition is
important to us, for someone from the service to meet with us. So far, no one
has called, we don’t even know if the petition has reached where it should
reach,” says one of the prisoners.
The signed petition still reached the prison administration. Prison warden
Zoran Jovanovski says in a statement for Sitel that their requests are being
processed. But although he confirms that the conditions are disastrous, the
female prisoners were not left in such conditions for very long.
