Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry discussed President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi’s upcoming visit to Turkey in his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his visit to Istanbul on Saturday, the Egyptian Foreign Minister said
According
to the ministry, Shoukry noted that this visit is part of the preparations for
President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi's upcoming visit to Turkey for the inaugural
meeting of the High-Level Strategic Council between the two countries.
During the
meeting, Erdogan and Shoukry exchanged views on several regional and
international issues, including the escalating crisis in Gaza and its severe
humanitarian repercussions.
They
stressed the necessity of achieving an immediate and permanent ceasefire and
allowing unhindered humanitarian aid access, and reiterated the warning against
any military operation in the Palestinian Rafah.
They also
underscored the importance of continued coordination and joint action between
Cairo and Ankara to prevent the conflict from spreading in the region.
Shoukry
praised Turkey's humanitarian aid to Palestine, which has been provided in
cooperation with Egypt.
He
emphasized the importance of cooperation to achieve Palestinian reconciliation,
resume the peace process, and ultimately establish a viable Palestinian state
living peacefully in the region with its capital in East Jerusalem.
Shoukry and
Erdogan emphasized the importance of coordinating their efforts in Libya to
implement international resolutions aimed at resolving the crisis.
They also
exchanged views on Syria, with Shoukry reaffirming Egypt's steadfast position
on the necessity of reaching a political settlement under Resolution 2254 to
ensure Syria's sovereignty, security, and stability.
Shoukry
also discussed Egypt's efforts to restore stability in Sudan, avoiding the
state's collapse and ensuring coordination with all regional and international
initiatives to resolve the crisis.
The
situation in the African Horn and the developments regarding the Grand
Ethiopian Renaissance Dam and Somalia were among the issues discussed.
He also
emphasized Egypt's commitment to enhancing trade between the two countries from
nearly $7 billion to $15 billion. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of
enhancing Turkish investments in Egypt
