Cairo.
President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi met on Tuesday with Director of Russian Foreign Intelligence Sergei Naryshkin to discuss ways to stabilize the Middle East amid Israel’s war on Gaza, the Egyptian presidency said.
The meeting
was also attended on the Egyptian side by the Head of the General
Intelligence Service Major General Abbas Kamel.
President
El-Sisi and Naryshkin reviewed Egypt’s efforts to calm the regional
escalation through diplomatic engagement with all parties.
They also
affirmed that an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the unfettered flow of
sufficient humanitarian aid and relief to the strip are fundamental steps to
defusing regional tension.
El-Sisi
also reaffirmed that there is a crucial need to reach a just and comprehensive
settlement of the Palestinian issue through the establishment of the
Palestinian state on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, to ensure
peace and stability in the Middle East.
During the
meeting, El-Sisi and Naryshkin also discussed several African issues,
counterterrorism efforts, and the latest developments internationally,
especially in Ukraine and Afghanistan.
The two
sides emphasized their commitment to continuing consultations and coordination
between the two countries on various dossiers.
