A missile
attack by Yemen's Houthi rebels that damaged a Belize-flagged ship traveling
through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait that connects the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden
has forced the crew to abandon the vessel, authorities said Monday. Another
ship reportedly came twice under attack in the Gulf of Aden.
The United
States Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed that the Yemeni forces targeted
MV Star Nasia, a Marshall Island-flagged, Greek-owned-and-operated bulk carrier
transiting the Gulf of Aden.
The pilots
on board the USS Eisenhower aircraft carrier have spoken about the distress
they’ve experienced since they began their mission against Yemen in the Red
Sea.

Houthi
attacks in the Red Sea might result in the militarisation of a crucial maritime
route, raising shipping and insurance prices, and impeding the flow of critical
supplies to Yemen.
A missile
struck a US-owned cargo ship off the coast of Yemen on Monday, a British
security agency and maritime risk company said, a day after Houthi rebels fired
a cruise missile at an American destroyer.
A new
strike hit the Yemeni Red Sea port city of Hodeida on Saturday following rocket
fire by Iran-backed Houthis, security sources said.

US and UK
forces have shot down more than 20 drones and missiles over the Red Sea
launched by Yemen’s Houthis, in what London branded Wednesday the “largest
attack” yet by the Iran-backed militia.
A member of
the Houthi Supreme Political Council, has said that the ship sailing through
Bab-el-Mandeb Strait have to declare that they have no connection with Israel.
In a video
press conference on 4 January 2024 Vice Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of US
Naval Forces Central Command, US 5th Fleet and Combined Maritime Forces (CMF),
gave a positive assessment of Operation ‘Prosperity Guardian’, which was
launched by the US military to protect merchant ships in the Red Sea region.
The
Yemeni-based Houthis declared on Wednesday that they had targeted a vessel
named " CMA CGM TAGE," claiming it was en route to Israeli ports.
